Indiana Secretary of Commerce Nate Feltman is joining Baker & Daniels after he leaves his state post at the end of the year. The law firm yesterday announced that Feltman will become a partner Jan. 12 in the firm’s business and corporate finance practice.
Feltman, 38, will help lead Baker & Daniels’ economic development, government relations and international initiatives.
Feltman has worked for the Indiana Economic Development Corp. since 2005, first as its executive vice president and general counsel. He was named commerce secretary after IBJ Media co-owner Michael S. Maurer stepped down from the job at the end of 2006.
Earlier in his career, Feltman worked as an attorney at Ice Miller LLP in Indianapolis and Chicago-based Altheimer & Gray.
He also spent four years in Moscow, Russia, working for international law firms Baker & McKenzie and Steptoe & Johnson LLP.
Feltman holds bachelor’s degrees in business and political science from Indiana University; a law degree from the IU School of Law-Indianapolis; and a master’s in Russian law from the Institute of State and Law, Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.
