The Indianapolis affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure on March 22 plans to unveil what may be the first such “text-to-donate”
option offered among local not-for-profits.

The option will allow donations without entering in credit card numbers. Instead, each $10 donation will simply appear on
one’s mobile phone bill when a user texts “impact” to 90999.

“You can literally text to donate in three seconds,” said James Burnes, CEO of Project Brilliant, the Indianapolis
firm that developed the texting option for the Indianapolis Komen affiliate.
The text-to-donate option was made popular recently by the American Red Cross as part of its relief efforts in Haiti.

Project Brilliant recently redesigned the Indianapolis Komen affiliate’s Web site and has been tapped to better coordinate
and integrate its information technology functions.

“While we have always embraced the Internet as a way to communicate with our supporters, we weren’t leveraging
it to grow our business and have a greater impact in our community,” said Komen Executive Director Dana Curish.

The group’s new Web site also accepts donations electronically, via credit card.

The 19th annual Komen Indianapolis Race for the Cure is on April 17. Proceeds go toward breast health programs and for research.
