Indianapolis will host the American Football Coaches Association annual conventions in 2014 and 2019, the Indianapolis Convention
& Visitors Association announced Wednesday morning.

The four-day events are expected to draw about 7,000 attendees each and fill a total of more than 20,000 room nights, likely
ranking among the city’s 25 largest conventions each year.

ICVA hasn’t estimated the economic impact of the gatherings, which have never been held in Indianapolis before, ICVA
spokesman Bill Benner said.

The Waco, Texas-based football association has 10,000 members who coach at all levels of competition, including more than
90 percent of college head coaches. Its convention was in Orlando, Fla., this year and is planned for Dallas next year.

Attendees will convene in Indianapolis Jan. 12-15, 2014, and Jan. 13-16, 2019—traditionally a slow time on the local
convention calendar.

“I have spent a lot of time in Indianapolis in meetings with the NCAA and other sports organizations that call Indianapolis
home," AFCA executive Director Grant Teaff said in a prepared statement. “Few cities in America have such an array
of quality hotels within easy walking distance of the convention center.”

ICVA chief Don Welsh praised NCAA Senior Vice President Tom Jernstedt—also vice chairman of the convention association—for
helping to attract the coaches’ group.
