‘Grandma’ found dead in burning home

A Sunday afternoon fire claimed the life of an 88-year-old woman living in a home in the 5400 block of Southport Road, fire officials said. Crews saw heavy smoke coming from the home when they arrived shortly after 3:30 p.m. Upon entering the house, they found resident Dorothy Wright’s body. Decatur Township fire officials say a family member visiting from Illinois called for help after pulling up to find smoke and flames pouring from the home. Neighbors tell Fox59 that Wright—whom they came to know as “Grandma”—was well-liked. She had lived in the home about 65 years.
