Estimates released Wednesday by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that 33.5 percent of adults in Indianapolis, which encompasses Marion County, use cellphones and lack traditional wired telephones.
That was among the higher rates in the nation. Dallas County, Texas, was highest at 43.2 percent.
Statewide, the figure was 25.2 percent. In Lake County, another heavily populated area, only 18.7 percent of adults have cut their landlines.
On the flip side, the government says only 15 percent of adults in Indiana rely only on traditional landlines.
