Michael Phelps was accused in the March 25 shooting at Martinsville West Middle School on March 25. Morgan Superior Court Judge G. Thomas Gray stopped the bench trial and issued the verdict after Phelps testified that he shot 15-year-old Chance Jackson twice with the intent to kill him. Jackson, who is still recovering from his injuries, also took the stand. Phelps faces 20 to 50 years in prison. Sentencing is set for Aug. 12.
