(IBJ File Photo)A recent certification of the RR300 engine by Russian authorities opens the door for future sales by Robinson Helicopter Co., based in Torrance, Calif., which uses the engine on its R66, and for Rolls-Royce.
Russia appears to be a hot market for civilian helicopter sales. The industry publication Helihub.com reports that two Russian helicopter dealers both claim to have sold the first R66 in their country.
The FAA issued flight certification last October, and the engine is in service on the R66 around the world. Unlike other countries, Russia does not automatically accept U.S. airworthiness certification, a Rolls-Royce spokesman said.
“We have been working very closely with the Robinson team to achieve this key milestone,” Greg Fedele, vice president for civil helicopters, said in an Aug. 17 press release.
