As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowCook Group CEO Carl Cook has donated $500,000 to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s bioscience research, on behalf of his late father, philanthropist Bill Cook.
The William Alfred Cook Laboratory for Bioscience Research will be built on the south side of Crapo Hall and serve as a dedicated campus facility for education in plant life and organisms.
Rose-Hulman, better known for engineering, science and mathematics, has been expanding its life sciences curriculum over the last decade, including the establishment of the Department of Applied Biology and Biomedical Engineering. The institution has, for example, focused on developing better ways to create biodiesel from algae.
“My father was a cross-disciplinary inventor who used engineering technology to solve complex problems in the field of internal medicine,” Cook said.
The 1,350-square-foot facility will include a greenhouse and will be designed to be a “visual focal point” on the campus.
