Westfield-based safety company IMMI said it plans to hire more than 65 full-time workers to keep up with demand for lap and shoulder belts for school buses.

The positions include engineers, office support and manufacturing workers, the company announced Wednesday.

IMMI already employs more than 100 engineers and developers.

In addition to the 65 hires, IMMI said it is seeking about 50 college students or others interested in temporary positions over the summer.

Demand for safety products is coming from school districts increasingly equipping buses with belts, said Larry Gray, CEO of IMMI.

“As research shows, more than 80 percent of parents want their childen in lap and shoulder belts on buses,” Gray said.

IMMI also develops safety systems for military and commercial vehicles.
