The Indianapolis Parks Foundation has selected Tanya Husain as its new president, the group announced Monday.

Husain, who has been executive director of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Indiana State Chapter, will replace retiring parks foundation President Cindy Porteous. Porteous announced her retirement earlier this year.

As head of the parks foundation, Husain will lead an organization that raises money for developing, upgrading and maintaining Indianapolis’ parks and related programs.

The incoming president previously served as the executive director of the American Cancer Society in central Indiana and associate vice president of university relations in Butler University’s advancement office. She also has experience in fundraising at Chicago’s Public Broadcasting Service station, WTTW-TV.

The foundation credits Porteous with raising more than $30 million since she came to the not-for-profit in 2000. She said she chose to retire because the organization had reached several milestones, including the group’s 20th anniversary and the end of a three-year Lilly Endowment grant that improved several park facilities.
