As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowEvansville-based communications provider Metronet has launched its first fiber-to-premise communications offering in the Indianapolis area.
Metronet has wired part of Franklin and plans ultimately to install more than 200 miles of fiber-optic lines as part of a $20 million investment in the Johnson County seat.
With the ability to handle up to 100 megabits per second, Metronet has snagged some bigger businesses in Franklin, including Electo-Spec, a specialty plating company.
It’s also offering a residential version of the service in the form of Internet, HDTV and voice service.
Franklin “joins a handful of communities in the country that have the necessary high-speed infrastructure to compete and thrive,” said Kevin Stelmach, vice president and general manager of Metronet.
Metronet, formerly known as Cinergy Metronet, is providing service in 10 other Indiana cities, including Connersville, Madison, New Castle, Seymour and Vincennes.
