The 2013 IndyFringe Festival broke its 2012 attendance record, with a 16-percent increase in tickets sold over last year.

Wrapping up Sunday, the 11-day performing arts festival downtown sold a total of 17,286 tickets for the 64 productions mounted, bringing the box office total to $121,256.

All the box office receipts are returned to the artists. In 2012, box office receipts totaled about $105,000.

The Indianapolis IndyFringe Festival, the local performing arts group that stages the festival, collects revenue through the one-time sales of $5 festival buttons, which are required for patrons to purchase tickets. Pauline Moffat, executive director of IndyFringe, estimated button sales this year at $25,000, meaning about 5,000 individual patrons saw at least one show.

The 2013 festival included 384 total performances, up from 336 in 2012 due to the addition of an eighth venue. Twenty-six performances sold out.

The top five shows in terms of box office receipts were, in order:

— “We May Very Well Be Sued,” Three Dollar Bill Comedy

— “Welcome to the Monkey House,” ShadowApe

— “The Beast, The Lady and The Sanguine Man,” NoExit Performance

— “Electric Romeo,” Dance Kaleidoscope

— “The All-New Bonnie Bitch’s,” OBEY Comedy Hypnosis Show
