Indiana University has officially released its request for site proposals for a new medical school facility in the Evansville area.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports the request calls for a minimum of 170,000 square feet, must include future expansion capability and must be ready for occupancy by July 1, 2017.

IU, the University of Southern Indiana, the University of Evansville and Ivy Tech Community College will offer programs at the center. IU's Evansville campus serves students for two years now, but the new site would allow students to finish their medical education in Evansville.

The school is expected to have 1,700 to 2,000 students taking part in programs offered by the four schools.

The deadline to submit proposals in Jan. 31. Proposals will be reviewed in February.
