The tumult of turnovers and retirements in the local TV news business this year continues right to the end of the calendar, as WRTV-TV Channel 6 news anchor Jenna Kooi hangs up the earpiece.

Kooi had been out on maternity leave over the last several weeks and has decided not to return, according to the station. She joined the ABC affiliate in early 2012 as co-anchor of the 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts with Todd Connor.

Previously, she had worked at WXIN-TV Channel 59, then as Jenna Maloney.

“We have not yet announced a replacement for Jenna,” said WRTV News Director Terri Cope-Walton.

Owned by E.W. Scripps Co., WRTV has bolstered its news programming this year. That included resuming weekend morning newscasts that had been cut years ago under previous owner McGraw-Hill.

WRTV lost one of its big guns this fall with the retirement of statehouse reporter Norm Cox. The bespectacled Cox spent 36 years at the station, covering seven governors.

Other changes in local TV news in recent months have included WTHR-TV Channel 13’s termination of weekend anchor and reporter Nicole Pence.  Sources said the departure was related to a report she was preparing about the unsolved Burger Chef murders.

Meanwhile, longtime local anchor Debby Knox retired last month after nearly four decades at WISH-TV Channel 8.
