A former WIBC-FM 93.1 news anchor has been tapped as the morning guy at WFYI-FM 90.1

Don Hibschweiler joins Sharon Alseth as co-anchor at 5-10 a.m. on weekdays.

The public radio station had conducted a national search for its second morning person, but “we concluded that our ideal candidate was right here, all along,” said Roxanna Caldwell, manager of WFYI-FM.

Hibschweiler, who joined WFYI in 2012 after three years at WIBC, started in radio at age 14 on a station in his hometown of Crawfordsville. He’s worked at stations in Michigan and was assistant program director and on-air host on the former Gold 104.5 FM—now Cumulus’ WJJK-FM 104.5 in Indianapolis.

WFYI and sister station WFYI-TV Channel 20 finished 2013 in the black, with revenue of $10.8 million and expenses of $10.6 million.

The public stations raise the biggest chunk of their revenue, 33 percent, from individual donors. Other major sources are corporate gifts/underwriting, at 22 percent, and government funds, 17 percent.
