Permit filings for home construction in central Indiana increased 8 percent in October, marking their largest year-over-year monthly jump in 2014.
Homebuilders filed 405 single-family building permits in the nine-county metro area last month, the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis said Thursday. That’s up from 375 that were filed in October 2013.
Filings were up 9 percent from the 372 permits that were filed in September.
Through the first 10 months of the year, 4,371 permits were filed in central Indiana, an increase of 1 percent over the same period of 2013.
As usual, Hamilton County led the area in permit filings in October, with 130, but that’s down 17 percent from October 2013. Year-to-date, the county lags last year’s homebuilding pace by 4 percent.
Marion County saw a 51-percent surge in permits in October, from 51 to 77. The county is 9 percent ahead of last year’s pace, with 689 filings during the first 10 months of the year.
Hendricks County experienced a 50-percent increase in filings, from 50 to 75. Filings rose in Hancock County, from 24 to 32, and in Boone County, from 20 to 25.
Johnson County saw 17-percent drop in filings, from 46 to 38. Morgan County had a slight decrease, from 15 to 17.
Fewer than 10 permits were filed in Shelby and Madison counties.
