The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana this month filed the federal lawsuit against Shiloh Estates and Colorado-based owner FR Community. The lawsuit alleges that since 2011, the management at Shiloh Estates discriminated against African-Americans, Latinos, families with children and people with disabilities.
The Indiana Civil Rights Commission ruled earlier this year it did not find reasonable cause for a possible violation of nondiscrimination laws.
Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana Executive Director Amy Nelson told The Indianapolis Star that the organization believes the state's decision was "made in error."
Messages left for the Indiana Civil Rights Commission and FR Community were not immediately returned.
