Nashville was recently recognized as one of America’s best small towns, securing a spot on Smithsonian Magazine’s “20 Best Small Towns 2015” list.

Highlighting the southern Indiana town’s lush landscape, arts heritage and festive environment, Smithsonian Magazine selected Nashville for its “one-of-a-kind atmosphere and history.” Deemed “a bucolic, woodsy paradise for country music fans and art lovers alike,” Smithsonian Magazine gives a nod to the Bill Monroe Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival, the Brown County Art Gallery, historic homes, handmade crafts and fall colors at Brown County State Park.

The magazine collaborated with geographical information company Esri to sort the country’s small towns (population less than 20,000) according to their number of cultural attractions, historical sites, nature opportunities, eating establishments and other factors. The magazine then researched towns commemorating milestones in 2015 such as anniversaries, openings, renovations and recoveries, narrowing the list to 20.

“People around here know how great of a place Nashville is, but this helps spread the word on a national level that our town truly is some place unique and special,” said Jane Ellis, executive director at the Brown County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
