Kennedy [July 27 column] rails against allowing the Christian cake baker to refuse baking the cake for “Adam and Steve,” but what if the baker is Muslim?

Through the lies and distortion of the media came the comparison between same-sex marriage and the civil-rights movement of the ’60s. Kennedy says, “This is precisely the argument made by opponents of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, who claimed that their religious beliefs required separation of the races.”

Actually, while some did try to make that argument, it was not central to the debate, and if Kennedy really knew her history she would know that Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. used the moral/religious argument precisely in the other direction. It was moral suasion that helped to finally kill slavery and its bastard child, the Jim Crow era.
