Indiana Gov. Mike Pence says the U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved a secretarial disaster declaration for eight additional counties hit by heavy rains and flooding since May 1.
Under the declaration announced Wednesday, low-interest emergency loans are available to all producers suffering losses in Clark, Fulton, Morgan, Owen, Rush, Shelby, White, and Whitley counties and affected contiguous counties.
Pence and other officials requested the additional coverage after U.S. Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack issued a disaster declaration last month for 53 counties and affected contiguous counties.
Separately, Pence on Monday requested Federal Emergency Management Agency grants for government and certain not-for-profits in 19 counties that were hit by severe storms and flooding from June 7 to July 29.
