One of the city’s largest accounting firms is expanding its operations in northeast Indiana by adding a Fort Wayne firm to the fold.

Fort Wayne-based Krouse Kern & Co. will merge with Indianapolis-based Katz Sapper & Miller LLP on Dec. 1, the companies announced Monday.

KSM, founded in 1942, is the largest accounting firm headquartered in Indianapolis, with about 315 local employees and 138 certified public accountants. It has additional offices in Fort Wayne and New York City.

Krouse Kern, founded in 1950, has about 20 employees, including 11 CPAs.

After the merger, Krouse Kern will remain in its current offices at 6509 Mutual Dr. in Fort Wayne but will take on the KSM name.

“Providing quality professional services for our entrepreneurial clients has always been the hallmark of our reputation in northeast Indiana,” Krouse Kern President Richard Krouse said in written remarks. “With this merger, our clients will have access to expanded resources and expertise provided by the KSM network of professionals.”

KSM is one of the 65 largest CPA firms in the nation.

“This is an ideal partnership,” KSM Managing Partner David Resnick said in a written statement. “Like us, Krouse Kern & Co. has provided unmatched service to middle-market, family-owned businesses with integrity and excellence. Their 65 years of service in the Fort Wayne market will complement the depth and breadth of resources that KSM offers.”
