A recreational vehicle manufacturer in northern Indiana is going out of business, costing about 270 workers their jobs.

In a notice posted by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development on Wednesday, Elkhart County-based EverGreen Recreational Vehicles LLC said it expected to permanently close its multi-building manufacturing complex in Middlebury by June 24.

The company said it began laying off workers on June 10.

Evergreen said it has been actively seeking capital or credit from various lenders, creditors or businesses for several months to continue operations, but was unsuccessful.

The employees are all non-union. Most of them are listed as direct laborers.

Evergreen is the third major employer in Elkhart County to announce mass layoffs in the past month.

In late May, Michigan-based auto parts company Diversified Machine Inc. said it planned to cut 500 jobs in Bristol.

In early June, electronic components manufacturer CTS Corp. announced it would end production at its base in Elkhart by mid-2018, cutting about 230 jobs.

President President Barack Obama visited the county on June 1 and gave a speech about how much the economy has improved under his leadership.
