The rate dropped from 5 percent in May, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development reported.
Indiana’s labor force grew to an all-time high of 3,373,371, the state said. The number of employed also hit a record of 3,210,299.

Indiana private-sector employment saw gains in the categories of Leisure & Hospitality (+2,600), Private Education & Health Services (+2,600), and Trade, Transportation and Utilities (+1,500).
Losses were seen in Professional & Business Services (-2,300) and Manufacturing (-1,300).
The state’s labor-force participation rate increased to 65.4 percent, far exceeding the national average of 62.7 percent.
Among Indiana’s neighboring states, Michigan had the lowest unemployment rate at 4.6 percent, followed Indiana (4.8 percent), Kentucky and Illinois (5.0 percent), and Illinois (6.2 percent).
The national unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in June.
