Home builders filed 462 single-family construction permits in the nine-county area during the month, a 15 percent increase over the 403 they filed in September 2015, BAGI said.
So far, permit filings are 13 percent ahead of last year’s pace, with 4,441 in the first nine months of the year, compared with 3,935 during the same nine months of 2015.
Area filings have risen on a year-over-year basis in 13 of the last 14 months. The only decrease during that span was a 1 percent dip in November.
As usual, Hamilton County led the area in filings, with 171 last month, a 31 percent increase over the previous September.
Permit filings in Marion County were down 9 percent, with 75 filed last month.
Hendricks County saw a 1 percent increase in filings, with 72.
Filings were up 53 percent in Johnson County, to 72, and rose 42 percent in Hancock County, to 27.
In Boone County, filings rose 88 percent, to 30. Madison County saw filings fall from 19 to two.
Filings in Morgan County dropped from 10 to six. And Shelby County filings slipped from eight to seven.
Steve Lains, CEO of BAGI, said a record 15,000 people attended this year’s Home-A-Rama event, which took place Sept 15-Oct. 2 in Westfield’s Chatham Hills neighborhood.
