A joint venture between GEP Fuels and U.S. Energy Logistics plans to build a $100 million recycling center in Carroll County, creating up to 256 jobs by the end of 2020, the company and state officials announced Tuesday.

The venture, GEP Fuel & Energy Indiana LLC, said it will build the 650,000-square-foot recycling center on State Road 75 south of Camden, between Lafayette and Logansport. The facility will refine recyclable and non-recyclable waste plastic into commercially viable products. Construction and hiring are expected to begin in 2017.

Average salaries at the center are expected to range between about $44,000 to $50,000 per year.

On an adjacent site, GEP plans to invest $200 million in a plastics-to-diesel facility.

Both sites will be served by the U.S. Rail Corp., plans to transport about 1,500 tons of recycled product daily.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered GEP Fuel & Energy Indiana up to $2 million in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job-creation plans. These credits hinge on the partnership's ability to reach job-creation goals.

Carroll County also is expected to provide additional tax incentives for the project.

Sites in Texas and Pennsylvania were also considered for the project
