As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowIndianapolis-based health insurer MDwise Inc. is planning to leave the Hoosier Care Connect program, a move that will cost 80 employees their jobs.
In a letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development posted Tuesday, MDwise said it could not reach an agreement with the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning over payment rates for the Hoosier Care Connect program and decided not to renew its annual contract.
Hoosier Care Connect serves individuals 65 years and older, blind or disabled, and who are also not eligible for Medicare. MDwise had been with the program since its inception in 2015. Its current contract expires March 31.
MDwise said it plans to terminate employment of 79 employees who work on the Hoosier Care Connect program at its Fortune Circle facility at 5604 Fortune Circle South and one employee at its Madison Plaza facility at 1200 Madison Ave. All of the terminations are scheduled for April 17.
The employees include 23 case managers, 14 nurses, 14 care managers, 12 techs, nine health advocates and four coordinators, among others.
MDwise said it hoped the employees would be offered employment by the two companies that will continue to provide coverage for the Hoosier Care Connect program—Anthem Inc. and Managed Health Services of Indiana.
