The Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library was upgrading a building in Indianapolis' trendy Mass Ave cultural district after signing a lease.
But founder Julia Whitehead says significant structural problems have been found in the building at 646 Massachusetts Ave., and the not-for-profit doesn't want to endanger its collection, supporters or patrons. She said the dispute with building owner 646 Mass Ave Partners Inc. is now in court.
Whitehead said the museum will remain for now in its small downtown Indianapolis location at 340 N. Senate Ave.
Scott Johnson, who is president of 646 Mass Ave Partners and creative director for ad agency Axiomport, a tenant in the building, told The Indianapolis Star that attorneys for both sides are talking and the company remains "big fans" of the museum's work.
Vonnegut died in 2007 at age 84. His novels included "Slaughterhouse-Five" and "Cat's Cradle."
