The Military/Veterans Coalition of Indiana has a short-term solution for recruiting people to Indiana [“Oesterle: Indiana must recruit—yes, recruit—talented natives to come home,” May 29]. In fact, we had Sen. Phil Boots author legislation that would have made the state money, made the population grow, provided new taxpayers in Indiana counties and filled many critical job openings that exist today and will be needed over the next 10 years.

The solution is to go to active military installations across our nation and “recruit” those serving who will be leaving the military in the next six months. Our plan includes a partnership between government, private industry and local chamber of commerce organizations.

Where can you find physically fit, drug-free, high school graduates, felony-free, who want a great-paying job? The military! Need 100 truck drivers? The Army has thousands fully trained in the latest semis and they know the maintenance on those trucks.

Need supply management? The Army trains and has hundreds to manage warehouses, food distribution, parts distribution, fuel, ammo and much, much more—all using high-tech equipment worldwide! Need jet airplane engine maintenance techs? Look to the military!
