The Indiana Economic Development Corp. announced the expansion on Monday.
Multimatic is a Toronto-based company that engineers and manufactures body hardware, suspension systems, body structures and other automotive components and systems.
The company plans to open a 125,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the Allen County city of New Haven. Preparations have already started at the site, and operations should launch by the end of the year, the IEDC said. Workers will make high-strength steel components at the site.
Based on the company’s plans, the IEDC is offering Multimatic up to $1,275,000 in conditional tax credits, plus up to $150,000 in training grants. Local officials also plan to offer economic incentives for the project.
Multimatic already has more than 250 Hoosier employees at a separate northeast Indiana facility. That site is in Butler, in DeKalb County.
“Multimatic chose to establish the factory in New Haven to be close to both its customer base and its existing facility in Butler, something that ensures ongoing production and technical support,” Rick Nafziger, general manager of the new facility, said in a prepared statement. “Also important is the availability of well-trained engineering, technical and manufacturing talent, necessary to making the new plant a success."
