As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowLeaders of Cummins Inc. will join local and state officials next week to announce investments in two downtown Columbus projects totaling $80 million, the Fortune 500 engine maker announced Friday.
One of the projects will be at Cummins’ global headquarters in Columbus, and the other involves construction of a new railroad overpass, said Cummins spokesman Jon Mills.
The cost of the projects will be shared by Cummins, the state of Indiana, the city of Columbus and Bartholomew County, Mills said.
“Both the investments are tied together. Without all the partners tied together, we could not have done this,” Mills told IBJ on Friday.
The new overpass will not be a line that feeds into Cummins’ operations, Mills said. He declined to provide additional details in advance of next week’s announcement.
The announcement is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cummins’ corporate office building in downtown Columbus.
Scheduled attendees include Cummins President and Chief Operating Officer Rich Freeland; Gov. Eric Holcomb; Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger; Indiana Dept. of Transportation Commissioner Joe McGuinness; state Sen. Greg Walker; state Rep. Milo Smith; Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop; Louisville & Indianapolis Railroad President John Goldman; as well as representatives from Bartholomew County and CSX Transportation.
