Revenue Growth FY 2014 to 2016: 86%

Fast 25 again: TMG has made the Fast 25 four times since 2012 by not focusing on growth as a company goal. President Michael Goins said growth “has always been a natural byproduct of our client relationships and who we choose to work with. We choose high-growth clients who want to rely on us solely to help them achieve their own growth, and their growth fuels ours.”

Client growth: Goins said TMG’s growth over the past year “has been for our existing clients, as they expand and acquire. … Our success has caused more business owners to seek us out, and we do add one or two per year, if we see that we can accommodate their needs.”

Keeping costs down: Also aiding growth, Goins said, is that the company tries to stay lean. It only adds staff and resources when it absolutely must, to accomplish the work it already knows it has and will have. Because it is typically booked eight to 12 months in advance, TMG knows what it will need. “We never want to get ourselves into a position where we are so big that we have to chase down work to pay our bills.”

Notable projects: TMG’s construction takes place mostly outside Indiana, but it did build the Nada restaurant in Circle Centre downtown. “It was a fun project for us because it was different than our usual projects,” Goins said. “There was a lot of intricate design work and almost everything was a custom finish. That concrete vestibule you walk through when you enter the restaurant? That was something other contractors had told the owners couldn’t be done, but we figured out a way.”

Staying busy: TMG works for one of the largest Taco Bell franchisees in the nation, and for the past 10 years it has split the work with another construction firm. The other firm’s owner recently announced his retirement, so TMG has picked up the rest of the territories and will be providing all construction management. “This will increase our revenue dramatically and have us working even more in the west and south,” Goins said. TMG is in the process of building another Nada— this one in Nashville, Tennessee—and it’s seeking property to build a new office next year.•
