Cummins Inc.’s global distribution headquarters building in downtown Indianapolis took home the highest honor at the Indy Chamber's annual Monumental Awards gala Thursday night.
The 40th annual event, which recognizes excellence in architecture, engineering, neighborhood revitalization and construction, took place at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.
The nine-story Cummins building at 301 E. Market St., which opened in January, won the Monumental Award, which was selected by a jury of community and professional leaders from the Indianapolis region.
Architectural firm Deborah Berke Partners designed the Cummins facility. Berke, the firm’s founding partner, is the dean of Yale University’s architecture school. Indianapolis-based Ratio Architects Inc. was also involved in the project as was Fink Roberts and Petrie Inc.
"The Monumental Awards are intended to showcase the vision and talents of Indy's design, engineering and construction industries as the cornerstone of our region's built environment,” Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority and chairman of the Monumental Awards Committee, said in written remarks. “Cummins’ addition to the Indy skyline is the perfect representation of that vision and design."
