It wasn’t a happy start to the year for Indianapolis Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson.

After several seasons of tumult, Grigson was fired by Colts owner Jim Irsay and later replaced by Chris Ballard.

The Colts went 11-5 and made the playoffs in each of Grigson’s first three seasons, but speculation about his future began to rise after the Colts missed the playoffs for the second straight season in 2017.

It was widely reported that Grigson had a rocky relationship with Coach Chuck Pagano and numerous players, who said he was standoffish.

A week after firing Grigson, Irsay hired Ballard, a longtime NFL scout and personnel executive. He arrived in Indianapolis after four years working for the Kansas City Chiefs, where he had most recently been director of football operations.•
