Indiana Sports Corp. and city officials delivered a late treat the day after Halloween.

In a surprise announcement at Lucas Oil Stadium, local officials said they had scored the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship game. The game will be played at the stadium Jan. 10 that year.

The 2022 title game and related activities are expected to draw 100,000 visitors and have a $150 million economic impact on the region, Visit Indy officials said.

Just two years earlier, Indiana Sports Corp. officials announced they had considered bidding to host the game, but decided against it.

Former Indiana Sports Corp. Chairman Michael Browning said the city did not make a formal bid for the game. Instead, city officials were asked in September if they could host the game and iron out the details within six weeks. The city did not say how much it will cost to host the game.

Mark Howell, ANGI Homeservices chief operating officer, has agreed to chair the organizing committee for the event. Susan Baughman, Indiana Sports Corp. senior vice president for strategy and operations, will serve as president. Howell announced a week after the Nov. 1 announcement that in January he would depart ANGI Homeservices to become president and CEO of manufacturing and logistics advocacy group Conexus Indiana.•
