Heartland Food Products Group plans to relocate its headquarters from Clay Terrace in Carmel to a yet-to-be-determined location on the north side of the Indianapolis area and add about 130 jobs, company officials announced Tuesday.

Heartland—the maker of Splenda, Java House Cold Brew Coffee and other sweetener products—is located above Prime 47 steak house in the shopping center at U.S. 31 and 146th Street, where it has about 70 employees.

The company said it hired an adviser to help it find a new headquarters location within the next 60 days. The company, which has 1,200 employees worldwide, plans to move into the new space within 18 months, said Heartland spokesman Rich Doppelfeld.

Heartland officials say they need more space in their central offices to allow for about 200 employees, including executives and support staff as well as those working in sales, finance and IT. The company said it will consider locations to lease or build 50,000 to 75,000 square feet of office space on the north side of Indianapolis and in the Carmel, Westfield and Fishers areas.

Heartland has a manufacturing and distribution center in Indianapolis, more offices in Horsham, Pennsylvania, and manufacturing and distribution facilities in Amsterdam and Mexico City.

The company won an important intellectual property case at the U.S. Supreme Court last year involving patent infringement lawsuits.
