LETTER: When silence is deafening, speak up

In “Farrakhan Spews Hate but Few Seem to Object” [May 11], Mickey Maurer does an excellent job highlighting the indifferent response from various anti-hate organizations and individuals who provide Louis Farrakhan a free pass to espouse anti-Semitism in their name. ADL has monitored Farrakhan’s hateful rhetoric for decades and has long been concerned by those who seem so ready to condemn bigotry while ignoring or even defending inflammatory statements made by the Nation of Islam’s leader. Maurer’s piece cuts to the core of the issue: ignoring one type of hate because it does not affect you personally allows it to fester and grow; we need strong leaders to stand up against all strains of prejudice. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.
