Deal with national pharmacy spurs tech company’s growth

The Consultants Consortium, an Indianapolis-based technology company, has signed a deal with national mail-order pharmacy GoGoMeds that officials project will help double its local workforce—to about 250—within five years.

TCC has agreed to build a platform for Cincinnati-based GoGoMeds that is designed to allow its customers to quickly search for the lowest-price prescriptions and have them delivered straight to their homes.

A key component of TCC’s platform is allowing GoGoMeds to move from a strictly business-to-consumer model to one that encompasses business-to-business as well.

“Our solution is simple: Through a proprietary process, we provide the lowest prices for consumers on nearly 1,000 different prescription medications. They order it, we ship it to their doorstep, cutting out the wait time and the middle man,” Ron Ferguson, CEO of GoGoMeds, said in a statement. “Our model is transforming the future of the pharmaceutical industry. And, with the help of TCC, we’re now able to extend our services to businesses to offer lower cost prescriptions to employees, in turn saving them money.”

Andrew Hwang, founder, owner and CEO of TCC, said the partnership is unique "because, together, we will offer solutions for both consumers and businesses."

“We’ll also be able to support GoGoMeds by offering custom platform integrations that fit the needs of their B2B customers, whether that be compliance- or functionality-related," Hwang said.

TCC’s platform allows GoGoMeds to work with groups, professional employment organizations and third-party administrators, company officials said. It also has a component that allows manufacturers to go direct to market with things like diabetes kits.

TCC’s deal with GoGoMeds goes far beyond merely creating a platform.

“We’ve essentially been hired as an outsource" chief information officer, explained Stephen Palamara, TCC's director of business development. 

TCC will handle all the “automation technology” for GoGoMeds, he said, including the consumer portal that handles pricing and the sales experience as well as logistics and delivery.

Unlike many mail order pharmacies, GoGoMeds is not affiliated with any insurance company. GoGoMeds formerly was known as Specialty Medical Drugstore 

TCC, which has a total of 400 employees, has its tech team for GoGoMeds based in Indianapolis, many at its headquarters at 52nd Street and College Avenue.

“The staff here is definitely growing,” Palamara told IBJ, adding that the company is hiring product managers, business developers, programmers, network administrators, quality assurance testers and sales and marketing experts.

“The fact that GoGoMeds has come to us speaks volumes about the company and the Indianapolis tech echo system overall,” he added.

TCC is working with Eleven Fifty Academy, a local not-for-profit coding academy, to help fill some of its new positions.

The company overall is seeing solid growth, Palamara said, including growth in its cloud practice, cyber security and managed services/infrastructure divisions.

TCC reported revenue of $40 million last year and projected growth of 15 percent this year before striking the GoGoMeds deal. That deal could push that growth even higher. 

GoGoMeds has grown from handling 50 prescriptions a day to 2,000 per day since its launch in 2017. The company reported hiring 46 pharmacists this year and projects quadrupling its annual revenue.

TCC company officials said they’ve nearly outgrown their south Broad Ripple headquarters. They are considering renovating their current space or looking for additional space.
