Several restaurants leaving airport as part of concessions shakeup

March 15, 2019

To make room for a slew of new restaurants and retailers, Indianapolis International Airport will be saying goodbye to numerous others.

Among those on the departure list announced by the Indianapolis Airport Authority on Friday are several homegrown concepts, including King David Dogs, Cafe Patachou, Indy 500 Grill, 317 Tap Room, Brickyard Authentics and 96th St. Steakburgers.

The King David Dogs location is the last one for the Indianapolis-based hot dog vendor, which closed its downtown store in November.

The authority said the businesses would close beginning in the spring, with some lasting until 2021 based on the terms of their leases. It didn’t provide specific closing plans for each business.

Earlier this week, the authority revealed at least a dozen new food and beverage vendors that had applied to operate at the airport. Those vendors were approved Friday, including Shake Shack.

The other newcomers include Sun King Brewery, Bento Sushi, Bub’s Burgers, Hot Box Pizza, a farmer’s market with Indiana-produced items, an Indiana Pacers Courtside Club restaurant, Circle City Beer Garden, Social Cantina, Tinker Coffee, Stacked Pickle and Ben’s Soft Pretzels.

Third-party operators will run the concession locations.

Returning concessionaires include Harry & Izzy’s and Starbucks.

Also leaving the airport will be Brooks Brothers, Cultural Crossroads, Lids Locker Room, Qdoba, Erwin Pearl, Uniquely Indy, Vera Bradley, South Bend Chocolate Co., Green Leaf & Bananas, Au Bon Pain and Granite City.

The departure list also includes Copper Moon Coffee-A/B, Freshens, Auntie Anne’s, Champps, iStore and Wolfgang Puck.

Several news and convenience stores also will close or change names: Broad Ripple Books-B, Civic Plaza Travelmart, CNBC News-B, Hoosier Marketplace-A, Hub Convenience-Baggage Claim, Indiana Marketplace-B, Relay Newsstand-A/B, and USAToday-Civic Plaza.

The changes are part of the airport’s concessions refresh program. Several retailers have already been announced:

- Hoosier Crossing – Civic Plaza
- Just Pop In! – Civic Plaza, A/B
- TripAdvisor – Civic Plaza
- FAO Schwarz / FAO Schweetz
- Hudson – A/B
