United Way of Central Indiana will expand its program for improving church-based child care to its six-county region with
a $1 million economic stimulus grant from the Indiana Family and Social Service Administration’s Bureau of Child Care.

UWCI previously made a three-year, $1.2 million commitment to improve child care ministries in Martindale-Brightwood
and nearby neighborhoods. The goal is for child care centers to meet health, safety and program standards of the voluntary
“Path to Quality” rating system.

The first child care in central Indiana accepted by the rating
system is Daystar Child Care at Englewood Christian Church, 57 N. Rural Ave.

With the stimulus grant, United Way
will offer assistance to 60 registered child cares throughout the region.

Two local businesses, Halstead Architects
and Hagerman Group, are helping United Way by assessing building needs and making the improvements. The two companies, along
with five subcontractors, have made in-kind contributions valued at more than $123,000. So far, they’ve worked on five
church-based child care centers.

Contributing subcontractors are Circle B, Ermco Electric, IMI, Mulhaupt’s,
North Mechanical, Ray’s Trash, Siemens, Sunbelt and Waste Management.
