Subscribe NowTrustees of Ivy Tech Community College have narrowed their search for a new president to a former Remy International Inc. executive and a U.S. Air Force colonel—and passed over Executive Vice President Carol D’Amico.
Internal documents obtained by IBJ show the trustees plan to conduct a fourth interview with the two candidates March 22 to replace long-time president Gerald Lamkin. Lamkin’s last day is June 30.
The finalists are:
* Thomas J. Snyder, who was president and chairman of Anderson-based Remy, an auto parts supplier, from 1994 to 2006. Snyder now leads the
* Thomas D. Klincar, a commandant at Community College of the Air Force at Maxwell Air Force Base in
Snyder and Klincar were picked from a total of 38 applicants, one internal document says.
Both men have extensive management experience. Another internal document says that ideal candidates for the position should have “a minimum of 10 years of proven leadership and management experience preferably in an organization of a size and complexity comparable to Ivy Tech.”
D’Amico has been a fixture in education circles. Before taking her current post, she was a leading education adviser to President George W. Bush on matters related to high school reform, community/technical colleges and adult literacy.
Klincar could not be reached for comment.
But Snyder, 62, said a couple of friends who are colleagues suggested he apply for the position.
Snyder wouldn’t discuss any goals he has for the institution, but said Lamkin had achieved a good balance among academics, workforce training and economic development.
