Lots of people are taking the week off for spring break, but plenty of people are still toiling away at their jobs, local employers say.

At F.C. Tucker Co.’s corporate office on the far northside, 20 to 25 percent of workers are out this week, said Stan Phariss, vice president of human relations for the residential real estate brokerage. Most have school-aged children.

Still, work is being accomplished, Phariss said. “It’s just quieter.”

At law firm Barnes & Thornburg, about 25 of 200 non-legal staff and secretaries have taken the week off, said human relations assistant Kim Finney.

Gregory & Appel Senior Associate Bob Miller estimated 15 percent of the people on his floor are out.

Absences of his co-workers and others made for an easy commute to downtown from Carmel, Miller said.
