Gov. Mitch Daniels is expected to be in Evansville at 11:30 a.m. Eastern

time today to participate in an AT&T announcement that it will place a

call center in the southwestern Indiana city.

The call center, which will service Cingular Wireless customers, will

employ more than 500, according to the Evansville Courier & Press.

However, San Antonio, Texas, telecommunications company has not settled

on a site. A former Sam’s Club is one possibility, a real estate broker

told the newspaper.

The announcement confirms an IBJ report April 10 that AT&T was eyeing

Evansville but had not been finalized the deal.

In February, AT&T said it will hire 425 call center workers in downtown

Indianapolis at an average wage of about $40,000.
