Indianapolis airport grounds contract with BAA

The Indianapolis Airport Authority is ending its contract with airport manager BAA Limited in December—one year earlier than the agreement was set to expire, the authority announced today.

The British company had notified the authority that, based on current corporate strategy, it would not pursue a new or extended contract at the end of the existing deal. That prompted a phased handover of operations back to the authority in the next few months.

The airport authority and BAA agreed to terminate the contract one year early to complete the transition before the new, $1 billion midfield terminal opens next year.

A majority of the existing management is expected to remain in place.
