As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowCook Medical said yesterday it will add 50,000 square feet to its 104,000-square-foot facility in Spencer that manufactures devices for its Urological and Women’s Health divisions.
It’s too early to know what the project will cost or how much hiring will result, said Dave McCarty, spokesman for Bloomington-based Cook.
The facility now houses about 300 workers. While the expansion will increase square footage by nearly 50 percent, the work force will increase by a smaller percentage. That’s because workers in the existing facility will be given more elbow room.
“It’s crowded. They have needed this expansion for a long time,” he said. “This modernizes things and gives people space to spread out more.”
The plant also makes drainage catheters and stents and baskets for retrieving kidney and bladder stones.
Construction is expected to start in mid-2008 and take two years.
