As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowStarting Jan. 2, the morning newscast on WXIN-TV Channel 59 will be simulcast on its sister station, WTTV-TV Channel 4.
While other central Indiana affiliates offer a blended local and national morning newscast, WXIN is the only station to offer an all-local weekday news show.
The local “Fox 59 Morning News” airs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday. WXIN also supplies general news for IBJ Daily.
Officials for Chicago-based Tribune Co., which owns WXIN and WTTV, said WTTV’s “extended reach and statewide cable carriage” will broaden the audience for the show.
“Indiana deserves a morning newscast dedicated to local news,” said WXIN and WTTV General Manager Jerry Martin. “We listened to what our viewers wanted and are proud to extend our morning news coverage to reach more Indiana viewers.”
WTTV currently airs a mixture of programming during the 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. time slot, including paid infomercials, and syndicated shows such as “Cops,” “Kenneth Copeland” and “Gospel Truths.”
WXIN launched its morning newscast in 1998. The station began making major investments in weather, traffic and news reporting under Martin’s guidance in the last three years, and has seen upticks in viewer ratings.
Martin replaced Rick Rogala as general manager in August 2004.
