Subscribe NowIntelliplex, the state-certified technology park in Shelbyville that has drawn fire locally and caution from the state, has received a commitment from Shelby County commissioners for $125,000 in funding per year for 25 years.
The action was taken Monday night as part of a series of decisions on how to spend economic development income taxes, according to The Shelbyville News.
In May, about 100 people attended a session where they could ask questions about the park. Many of the questions were sharp, and related to why more technology companies haven’t materialized since the park opened 2003.
In October, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. granted the park a new certification following a routine review.
However, the renewal was granted on the condition that, by Oct. 5, 2009, Intelliplex build a flexible-use, high-tech laboratory and create at least 50 high-paying tech jobs or jobs whose average wage at least meets the Indiana average.
