Houston will be bidding on the 2012 Super Bowl, the Texans said Wednesday. Reliant Stadium is the best venue in the league for the big game, the team said.

Houston opened its new stadium, with a maximum seating capacity of just more than 72,000, in 2002. It hosted a Super Bowl in 2004.

“In terms of providing the NFL with everything they want and more, we believe Reliant Park delivers,” Shea Guinn, president of SMG-Reliant Park told the Houston Chronicle.

Indianapolis is also considering a bid. Lucas Oil Stadium, which is scheduled to open this year, has a seating capacity of 63,000 that is expandable to more than 74,000, according to local bid leader Mark Miles.
