A union that’s organizing janitors in Indianapolis and other cities plans to deliver 100,000 candy hearts to Central Indiana Corporate Partnership at noon today to represent the number of people in Indianapolis the union says are without health insurance.

Central Indiana Corporate Partnership is a not-for-profit of CEOs of the region’s largest corporations and university presidents, and attempts to address work force, innovation and other issues that promote long-term economic growth. Its president is Mark Miles.

The delivery will be made to the Monument Circle office of CICP co-chair Ann Murtlow, who also is president and CEO of Indianapolis Power & Light Co.

“Indianapolis’ large corporations must ease the medical cost burden on taxpayers by providing good jobs with health care for low-wage workers,” the Service Employees International Union said in a statement.

The union says it is representing 1,500 janitors in negotiations about to begin with firms including American Building Maintenance, Group Service France, Mitch Murch Maintenance Methods, Sommers Building Maintenance and Bulldog.
