Senate may override veto on film tax break

The Indiana Senate is expected to vote this afternoon on whether to approve tax breaks for films shot in Indiana by overriding a veto from Gov. Mitch Daniels.

The legislature passed the bill last year to offer film and video production companies tax breaks of up to 15 percent of costs for projects under $6 million.

Daniels vetoed it, calling the incentives too broad based. Daniels wanted tax breaks targeted to landing new business, not subsidizing existing ones.

The House overrode the veto in January. If the Senate does the same, the bill would become law, a first for any vetoed measure under the Daniels administration.
