A tech park in downtown Bloomington that has been slow to land tenants since receiving state certification in 2005 may have a harder time filling up now that another tech park is on the drawing board for a nearby site, according to The Herald-Times of Bloomington.

Indiana University is considering opening a certified tech park on its campus, the newspaper reported. The university plans to build an incubator for start-up companies and later a certified tech park.

At least two local economic development officials doubt the city could support two tech parks.

IU’s Research and Technology Corp. is located in the existing tech park, as are the Ivy Tech sponsored-Small Business Development Center and its inVenture technology business incubator.

But a shortage of parking, too much distance to IU and too little developed space are hurting the park.
